Ever since the successful revival of the turntable/vinyl medium, scores of other related products and accessories have also similarly been revived.
No self respecting analogue audiophile would be caught without accessories such as the stylus cleaner, the record clamp, platter mat, LP cleaning brush, alignment gauge and a slew of other turntable/LP performance tools.
All of the above are dedicated to getting better sound out of your LP and they are, in want of a better word, as old as time.
However, a recent development by a DR. Ulrich Kathe of Audio Fidelity Improvement in Germany has resulted in the production of the Flat record flattener, a device that literally flatten out a warped LP. As most audiophiles will know a warped record (depending on the degree of the warp) not only makes the tonearm cartridge tracking of the record grooves difficult, it can adversely affect sound quality if not actually damaging the stylus on the cartridge itself.
The objective of the Flat is to return warped LPs to its intended original flat conditions.
According to Dr. Kathe who is a passionate audiophile the Flat not only restores the LP to its original ideal flat condition it also improves the sound quality significantly.
As it involves working with LPs the FLAT is out of necessity a large device measuring 400 x 55 x 500mm.
It is designed not only to work with LPs but also with singles and maxis proportion records.
A distinctive feature of the FLAT is its Relaxation programme where the vinyl is heated and evenly cooled. This is where the main improvement to the vinyl’s sound quality comes from. In addition there is an Expert as well as a Standard programme mode.
Constructed out of high quality hard glass, the FLAT is made in Germany and retails from RM15,200.
