Among the latest range of brand new Mark Levinson audio products that was recently launched was the No. 5105 belt drive turntable.
A respected iconic name in the high end audio community the No. 5105 is Mark Levinson’s second turntable to be made, to the first being the No. 515 which was first introduced in 2017.
Part of the Mark Levinson 5000 Series of audio components the No. 5105 is described by the company as a premium precision engineered turntable with original custom features.
Impressively solid looking with clean attractive lines the No. 5105 features a bead blasted one inch thick aluminium front panel that sandwiches a stock tinted glass display housing the speed and standby controls.
Highlight of the design is a solid aluminium platter that in itself weighs a massive 14 pounds. An hour glass shaped knob that acts as a record weight is part of the platter design.
The integrated tonearm is a 10″ high gloss carbon fibre design featuring a solid aluminium headshell that is fused to the arm to minimise headshell to tonearm resonance.
An Ortofon Quintet Black moving coil cartridge is factory installed to give it a ‘plug and play’ level of convenience. As with most modern day turntables the No. 5105 comes with a rear panel that features a pair of stereo phono output and a mains socket. Unlike most vintage turntables that come with output phono cables and mains wire connector, manufacturer of modern turntables gives you the important option of choosing your own preferred choice of cables. To most audiophiles choice of connecting leads and cables often lead to dramatic differences in perceived sound quality.
The No. 5105 measures 154 x 438 x 395mm and weighs a hernia inducing 34kg.
